Business Layer
Use case definition, workflow and work system analysis
The business layer supports organizations in designing GenAI solutions that fit their real business needs and ways of working. It focuses on three closely connected activities: defining relevant GenAI use cases, analyzing and redesigning workflows, and analyzing and redesigning the broader work system in which people and AI collaborate.
GenAI Product Canvas
For use case definition, the toolkit provides a GenAI product canvas, which helps teams structure the problem, clarify the expected value, identify users and stakeholders, and define how GenAI will be used in practice.
For each generic use case (for example, incident reporting), the toolkit also includes reference GenAI product descriptions based on this canvas. These descriptions serve as concrete examples that organizations can adapt to their own context.

Workflow Templates
To analyze and redesign workflows, the business layer builds on the extended business process modeling languages that can represent AI-based activities and human–AI collaboration.
For each generic use case, the toolkit provides workflow templates that describe reference business processes (for example, for incident reporting). These templates are based on the selected modeling language and make the business logic explicit—so that humans can understand how the process works, and computers can use the same structure to support or automate it, similar to how n8n templates are used.

Work System Analysis
Beyond individual workflows, the business layer also supports work system analysis and redesign. Using a work system template, organizations can analyze how people, processes, information, and technologies currently work together and design a future work system aligned with the proposed GenAI solution.
For each generic use case, the toolkit provides reference work system descriptions, helping organizations understand the broader organizational impact of introducing GenAI and design changes in a structured and consistent way.
